How to Create a Comfortable Space for Guests on.

When inviting people to stay at your house, you probably worry about how to make them feel welcomed and at ease. Whether you’re turning a spare room or your lounge room into a space for your guests to stay, there are some things you can do to make your guests feel more comfortable. Remember to consider how long they’ll be staying and how many people there will be to work out how much space to prepare.

Here are some key ways make your guests feel comfortable in the space:

A Comfortable Place to Sleep

Nothing says comfort like falling asleep in the clouds, or at least it feeling like that. It’s absolutely essential for you to have somewhere for your guests to sleep, like a comfortable sleeper sofa or bed.  If you have the space and capacity to dedicate one room for purely for guests, then having a queen or at least a double bed is great. However, if you don’t have an extra room, or can’t afford to dedicate it just for guests, a sleeper sofa is a fantastic option. You can still have the room set up as your office while working from home and also be able to have guests stay over.

Clean Sheets and Space

One of the easiest ways you can help your guests feel more comfortable in the space is by giving it a good clean before they arrive. Vacuuming the floor and dusting all the surfaces will help eliminate any dust and grime that might be hanging around the room. Then, open some windows to let in some fresh air. This should instantly make the space feel more welcoming and give a clean smell.

If they’re staying for a while, it’s a good idea to do this while they’re staying too.

  • Lavendar
  • Bergamot
  • Chamomile
  • Valerian

You could have the scent active before your guest arrives to make it a more welcoming experience.

Think about Temperature

If it’s the middle of winter and it’s freezing outside, you should provide your guests with blankets and hot water bottles so they can get warmer if they’re too cold.

Similarly, if it’s really hot, you might like to add a fan or portable air-conditioning unit to the space if there isn’t already one. It might be a good idea to have a fan in the space anyway because people often sleep better when the temperature is lower

If you’re not sure, don’t be afraid to ask. It might be really hot outside, but your guest may still want a blanket.

Ensure Enough Space

There’s nothing worse than staying somewhere that doesn’t have enough space for your belongings. To stop your guests from feeling like this, ensure there’s somewhere for them to store their suitcase or bag and if you can, some space in the wardrobe for them to hang their coats.

If your guests are staying in a space that doesn’t have a wardrobe, or anywhere else they could store their clothes, simply provide a space where they’ll be able to store their suitcase or bag and still have access to it. This doesn’t have to be anything fancy—it could just be space on the floor, or you might have a bench or armchair that could also do the trick.

You could also choose to get smaller sleeper furniture like a leather sleeper chair, which would provide a comfortable space for your guest to sleep while opening up more space for them to keep their belongings in.

Supply Good Lighting

Whether the existing light in the room is the very best, or the worst, add a lamp next to the bed or sleeper sofa. This will help them be able to cozy into bed and not have to get up again to turn off the light.

A bedside lamp will also help it easier to read in bed if they brought a book. If they didn’t, you could provide them with a selection of yours.

You might even want to include a salt lamp, which gives off a nice orange light that some people find very soothing.

Include a Plant Friend

Adding a plant to space adds life, oxygen, and a touch of nature. It can help an area feel more lived in, can actually help people sleep, and so much more. This is because of the increase in oxygen means cleaner air. You also get to choose what pot it goes in, which can add to the comforting feeling, such as if the pot had an encouraging quote or a cute picture on it.

Some easy plants to take care of that you could easily add to the space are:

  • Snake plants
  • Peace lilies
  • Aloe Vera plants
  • English Ivy plants book

Once your guests have left, you could either move the plant to your room.

Make It Tech Friendly

Before your guests arrive, write down the Wi-Fi password and any other technology-based information you think they might need during their stay.

Also, think about where the power sources are in the room. Consider where they’ll be able to charge their phone and how many devices they might be needing to charge at once. Perhaps you could provide a power board so they’ll be able to charge multiple items.

Apart from this, you might like to include a TV in the space so they can watch what they want.

Summing Up

There are many ways you can make spaces feel comfortable for guests. A clean space and somewhere nice to sleep are absolutely essential. Adding things like good lighting, nice aroma and plants may make your guests feel more relaxed. Remember to think about the temperature and add what you think they might need. Your guests should feel at home and at ease once you’ve finished setting up the space for them.
